Charlottesville and the University of Virginia are a prominent locus for considerations of race, place, and equity, and the English Department is committed to research and teaching in issues of race and social justice.

We are a large department, with faculty doing work in a wide variety of fields. We have experience in many forms of mentorship, including programs that involving mentoring junior faculty, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduates, and K-12 colleagues. With the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, we will provide research and pedagogical support and mentoring for members of the Rising Scholars program who join our community.
