Kiser

Hi! I'm Gabby, and I'm a first-year PhD student originally from the mountains of Southwest Virginia. I received my B.A. in English from the University of Richmond, where I wrote my honors thesis on Allen Ginsberg's (sometimes deceptive) representations of Naomi Ginsberg, Carl Solomon, and psychiatric systems in "Howl" and "Kaddish." I'm currently interested in how American writers documented massive shifts in psychiatric treatment during the 1920s-1940s and how class and gender affected their experiences, as well as cultural understandings of the relationship between artistry and 'mental illness' around that time. I also have a soft spot for Zelda Fitzgerald.
