Study Abroad
English majors are encouraged to explore the possibility of spending a semester abroad. As indicated above, courses taken during study abroad may count as one or both optional “outside” courses. To do so, they must be advanced courses in literary/cultural studies and must require 10-15 pages of essay writing. (Note: creative writing courses must require 25-30 pages of writing.) Students receive “preapproval” (before departure) and “final approval” (on site) for courses that appear eligible based on syllabi. Please keep in mind that neither of these initial approvals guarantees major credit. English requires DUP “post-approval” after your return to the US, when major credit is given upon showing that writing quotas have been met.
